life is ironic....?
there was this time... after i just booked into afs.
we (my bunkmates) were relaxing in bunk when my fren (from the neighbouring bunk) came in. and she just asked us in this VERY serious tone, "Don't u think life is ironic?"
no one reacted.
Then she went to each of us and asked us individually, "Don't you think life is ironic?"
so one of us couldn't stand it and asked her, "okay, so why is life ironic?"
then she picked up the iron and starting to iron her "sword of honour standard" no.3 rigorously, she told us a story.
Long long time ago..
(okay, this might not be accurate word for word, but the gist of it is there, i assure u)
There lived a fisherman and a businessman.
The fisherman lived in the village,
Everyday, he would go to the sea and fish 2 fishes.
Just enough to sustain himself each day.
and such was the life of the fisherman.
but one day, the businessman came across the fisherman,
and he asked the fisherman,
"Why fish for only 2 fishes everyday?
You should learn to fish for more fishes,
so you can sell it in the market.
and after the money you've earned from selling the fishes,
you can set up a business!
And after you've earn more money,
you can expand the business and earned even more money!"
But the fisherman asked him in return,
"For what purpose do i earn so much money for?"
The impatient business answered the fisherman with frustration,
"WELL of course, so you can retire early! and lead a simple life.."
Then the fisherman continued,"..fishing two fishes a day? Isn't that the same life that i'm living now?"
and that was the story.
Apparently, my fren (the one who stormed into our room all the time), got rather depressed the whole day after listening to that story from her fren.
And the whole night, she kept asking everyone she met, "Don't you think life is ironic?"
So are u the fisherman or the businessman?
...I guess most of us are the businessman.. going all out, to achieve the things, the big dream we want in life.
So is life ironic?
Are we going one big round back to square one?
I had my answer once the story was finished.
And I think the fisherman is wrong.
But well. this question i've thought about for quite some time already in the past,
before i even heard the story of the fisherman and the businessman.
Don't think i want to share my answer, not that i'm being selfish or trying to be secretive...
but i think this is something all of us should spend some time thinking about.
yepp. and that is my "the blog revives!" post of the month.
